After her mother Betsy (Massey) Merriam died Lucy Swain Merriam was raised by a Massey , possibly Baker Massey.  Mae Merriam Porter writes "With the help of Almira and Aunt Susanna, the oldest ones, he (Johnson) kept the family together, excepting Aunt Lucy who was taken by a Massey to New York (state) to live. She was brought up there and married Uncle Louis (Albert) B Adams. "Albert Butterfield Adams was first married to Lucy's cousin Lucy Swain Massey born Nov. 7, 1842 married Nov. 7, 1842 
In 1845 Lucy married Albert Butterfield Adams. They  had 3 children, the first son dying in infancy. They moved from New York to Canada near where her father Johnson lived. It Their son Albert W Adams went to college in Belleville, Ontario and took up the study of medicine. Daughter Lucy Ann married Truman Crandell. When their parents moved to Michigan  the children followed. Albert W. Adams he studied at Ann Arbor university and graduated with MD in pharmacy, in 1873 at age 23 years. He began his practice in Kalamo Michigan where his parents had a store. Dr. Albert married Nancy Cessna. They had one daughter.
In 1883 Dr. Albert with his family and parents moved to Bellevue, Michigan.
Lucy and Albert then moved to Charlotte Mich., and Albert entered Ann Arbor University and graduated with MD in pharmacy.
